My Letters from Mametz needs a trench, without a trench there is no film. Where do you find a World War 1 trench in South Wales?
Something nagged the back of my mind, I could vaguely recall a World War 1 trench system being built in Camarthenshire to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War 1 last year.
So I googled, and hey presto - Morfa Bay's Back to the Front Exerpience in Camarthenshire came up.
So I sent them an email:
Dear Morfa Bay
I am part of a small team who are looking to make our first short film (micro budget) called Letters From Mametz.
Basically it is about three soldiers during World War 1 awaiting their orders to go over the top during the Battle of the Somme and the letters they leave behind.
The location we are looking for is a WW1 trench, and possibly the hire of WW1 infantry uniforms, we envisage a cast of approximately 6-7 and two days maximum of shooting time.
We are wondering if it is at all possible to hire an area of your trench (maybe on days when it is closed to the public) to make our film? It would be nice to keep the location in Wales as it is about the Welsh tragedy at Mametz.
I look forward very much to hearing from you.
