Kickstarter Campaign

September 5, 2015

Our Kickstarter Campaign went live today.

Here is the blurb on the Kicktarter website:

During the battle of the Somme, the Welsh are famously known for their assault on Mametz Wood and the tragedy and triumph which followed.

On the first day of the Battle of the Somme the Welsh were also at Beaumont Hamel fighting alongside the Newfoundlanders.

The cast and crew of Letters Home are determined to bring to life the final hour of the South Wales Borderers as they wait to go over the top and into history books.

It follows the last moments of three soldiers all from different backgrounds, and what they decide to write home in what could become their final letters.

This is a non profit making venture. The filmmakers are striving to raise money for the hire of uniforms and weapons, and to make sure that the crew and cast receive all expenses for the shoot and are not out of pocket.

The film will be screened at film festivals during the summer of 2016 which is the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

Risks and challenges

Everyone on board the production of Letters Home are giving their time and expertise for expenses only.

Each member of the cast and crew will bring something special to the production. They are passionate about the story and are determined to bring it to life.

The location of the trench system, which will be at the heart of the story, is based in Pendine, West Wales, which for some of the crew is an 170 mile round trip.

To avoid having to make this incredibly long journey, twice, the entire cast and crew of the production will be accommodated at the location.

For authenticity the WW1 uniforms and weapons will be hired from a reputable company, which will be delivered in plenty of time before the shoot.

The unpredictability of the Welsh weather will play a major factor during the making of our film. Therefore we have come up with a back up plan if it is torrential rain.

The first day of the Battle of the Somme took place in favouable weather conditions. If it is raining for the duration of our shoot we move the story forward one year to the battle of Passchendaele .

The elements of the story will remain the same, except the Passchendaele story takes place in wet conditions.

2016 is the anniversary of the Battle of the Somme (2017 is the anniversary of Passchendaele). Both conflicts saw thousands of Welshmen die for their country.

Our location is gratefully supplied to us by Morfa Bay Adventure, Camarthenshire, so no permits are needed.

Funds are needed to pay the cast and crew their travel expenses, and accommodation for the duration of the shoot. The hire of 7 full WW1 Battlefield Uniforms and kit, plus the hire of weapons. Liability insurance for two locations , and location fees.

We envisage having the film ready for release in time for the anniversary of The Somme next year..
